Common Texas Window Styles and Solar Screen Sizes

Most of the calls we get for Solar Screens are for Homes Less Than 10-15 Years Old.  The majority of those homes have 1 of 3 Basic Type Windows.  For discussion, we will call the 3 Types A, B and C.  It is easy to distinguish between them once you know what to look for.  You may use this guide to help determine 'IF' you have one of the 3 Basic Types.

Type 'A'  Window

Made by HR, the Most Common Type of Modern Window.

Characteristics of Type 'A' Style is that the Solar Screen Width is Normally 1/2 Inch Fraction and the Solar Screen Height is Normally 5/16 Inch Fraction. Common Solar Screen Sizes are:

Type 'B'  Window

Characteristics of Type 'B' Style is that the Solar Screen Width is Normally 1/8 Inch Fraction and the Solar Screen Height is Normally 5/8 Inch Fraction.  Common Solar Screen Sizes are:

• 3x6                   34 1/8"        71 5/8"         31" Up

Type 'C'  Window

Made by Alenco, Several Modern Homebuilders Use This Type Window.

   Characteristics of Type 'C' Style is that the Solar Screen Width is Normally 1/4 Inch Fraction and the Solar Screen Height is Normally 3/4 Inch Fraction.  Common Solar Screen Sizes are:

    Basic Size              Width           Height           Crossbar

• 3x5                   34 1/4"         58 3/4"            31" Up
• 3x6                   34 1/4"         70 3/4"            31" Up
• 4x5                   46 1/4"         58 3/4"            31" Up
• 4x6                   46 1/4"         70 3/4"            31" Up

Common hardware for These 3 Type Solar Screens are:

• Tension Springs or Leaf Springs on top
• Lift Tabs on Bottom
